Remiss no more
Who is Becky? Becky is a hound dog that was dropped off along US Highway 64 and showed up at the Roadhouse in September or so. She looks to be a Catahoula x vizla. She was living on the front porch at the cafe and begging from customers, but she was basically a very polite hound, so as the time for her puppies to be born got close, I relented and brought her home. She has a nest in the closet and so the whole apartment stinks like a zoo. The puppies just started opening their eyes today.
The good news, as far as the apartment goes, is that John put in a tiny hot water heater so we have 3 gallons of hot water at our beck and call. This and a stack of firewood.... well, who cares that it's winter? Today it was moist and calm all the ice has melted and when the sun came out it was incredibly nice.
JD is off with Billy Hibbler for a month. He tried all his best maneuvers on Billy and found out that you can't get rid of a cowboy like you can an old lady. Expect the formerly-wiley mustang back after the first of the year. Meanwhile its just four large animals and the three little guys. I have been blogging regularly over at "Experiments with Equine Training" and not too keen about the Largo blog. I believe it's an effect of pluto conjuncting my sun, but hey, any excuse to train horses sounds good to me. I am enjoying working with the Cisco Kid who never ceases to amaze me.
As for Roger.... I put him out of the gym a couple of weeks ago and he has been in hibernation in the old bus across the road since then. He rarely comes outside and since I won't feed him or let him watch videos, who knows how he is doing over there. I expect that some day he will find somewhere else to go. I learned something from this volunteer though.... if a person doesn't ask what they can do to help, but rather they expect you to find them and get them organized, then they are more dead weight you will have to pack. Even if a person can't walk, they can ask, "What can I do to help you today?" If it's not their nature, they don't have what it takes to be a good volunteer and you need to keep them moving along on out of the canyon. Once the bus is empty, I will work at finding someone that is truly interested in horses to live here and help me.
There will be work at Navajo City. Just a few weeks away from gas splashing time! We will have to stay open 7 days a week and have longer hours. All the gas and electrical lines are hooked up, one tank is in place and we are just buying another this week. The concrete pad will get poured and the pumps can be put on the pedestals. It's all happening so fast. A guy showed up that wanted to trade a used gasoline station canopy for a motorcycle so, it was our own version of Miracle on 39th street.
Abe, Amanda, and Asher are doing well out in Hawaii. I can't believe my son turned 28 last week. He was just 18 a few minutes ago! Amanda is going to only take online classes next semester so I now have hopes that she will survive the stress of having a newborn. I was worried about them. Abe got a promotion and the promise of a raise. I think the Navy is trying to lure him into another enlistment, but I doubt that Abe takes the bait. I was shopping for baby stuff today online. The Baby Western Store really got my attention. I think the pistol/holster diaper pins are just the ticket, but I probably can't resist buying the cowboy booties either.
So much for now,
JRW

Thank you! I really miss the news from the Largo and am now happy to be up-dated on life out there.
Hot water down at your end? Must be truly heaven-like on those cold winter mornings.
Who is Cisco? I'm going to need Cole's notes on Largo animals before I arrive.
Are you able to integrate the 5-phases into your horse training yet? How d oy determine if a equine is more earth than metal? These are the questions I wonder.
Thanks for the update. Stay warm and healthy
