What would you get if you crossed an ashram with an elementary school? We are living it.

Barn Raising

The rafters found their permanent homes today on the top of the new barn. Yesterday John and Richard got the rafters on the east side and we are still trying to find the right materials to use on the west side. It comes along bit by bit. So far I would have to say that some of the nicest folks in the universe have shown up to help with my barn raising event. Donna, Ra, Sharek, Denise, Richard..... well, it's a stellar line up! I am one of the luckiest people on the planet to find such wonderful friends.

But life brings change and Denise took her horses and moved to Navajo City this morning. She had too many bills to pay to be able to afford to just stay out here, so she's ensconsed as the new afternoon waitress/oil field therapist at the Roadhouse. She will keep her horses with the Hibbler family and the less roomy accomodations will help her prioritize spending time with them.

Richard leaves for Ramah tomorrow where he will be helping some folks get rid of some dead trees. He and I are enough alike to speak the same language, so in a way I have felt like I was experiencing a mirror-soul. His life has been totally different than mine, but our 21 December birthdays must give us some kind of parallel mental framework. We spent many evenings discussing deep philosophy over tiny glasses of wine. It was a very special time.

Richard kind of filled in the gap after Donna went back to Canada, and now, starting tomorrow, I will be here by myself again. Donna gets back to Vancouver tomorrow and moves back into her apartment. John is super busy with the Roadhouse which has finally turned a corner and is operating profitably. I finally had to break down and learn to cook so I have been practicing on less busy days.... Denise and I make a great team. Later this week John will bring the perlins and the corrugated sheet metal and the barn will continue to become a reality.

WOW, that's progress!
Wish we were there having tiny glasses of wine, smelling the Nicotiana, & looking at ALL the stars.

Occasionally, I figure out something just right. I had no idea that you and Richard shared a birthday, but I told Joyce as we were driving home that I had a feeling Richard was to become one of your most special friends. So I'm glad it happened. Congrats on the barn. It looks great.
