Disclaimer: I want to emphasize that the opinions expressed in this page are entirely my own. My opinions should NOT BE TAKEN AS REPRESENTATIVE OF ANY OF THE FINE SELF-DEFENSE PROGRAMS I WORKEDWITH. If my former employers, teachers and co-workers ever read this page they will possibly disagree with my opinions at some of the same places some of you will.
Be that as it may, I take full responsibility for the opinions expressed here and would have to agree that this is not what I was taught. After my learning and teaching experiences it is what I have come to think.
This page is ongoing, and evolving (though not as quickly as I might like it to). Please check out what I have written, and give me your thoughts. I want to learn more and find better ways of expressing myself, on this issue as well as the rest of my life experience. In particular I want to know if what I have written makes any sense to anyone "out there", what areas were unclear or disjointed. I may not change my opinion, but I might, but I can work at communicating what I think in more clear concise language. I would be grateful for any feedback anyone may have.
I have worked with the issue of women's self-defense for nearly eight years as I write this, and I would now like to express my opinion of the root causes of domestic violence, rape and child abuse. In this page I will try to show a link between our societies distance from nature, the mass media's portrayal of "The Beauty Myth" and the isolation of man in our society.
I truly believe that these three situations cause a synergistic effect that creates a place where the abuse of women and children is socially acceptable.
I am currently writing about ways to address the issues of preventing, dealing with, and surviving sexual assault.{Though even after graduating acupuncture school this is not happening as quickly as I would like it to.}
How does this puzzle fit together?
